Ishan Nandan from Jharkhand has been selected as one of the national finalists for the 2026 Mr. India Universe competition. The national finale of the competition is scheduled to take place later this year. At the culmination of the event, the new Mr. India Universe winner will be chosen.
Ishan Nandan is an Actor, assistant director and portfolio manager in the capital markets from India. Born in Patna, Bihar and originally from Ranchi, Jharkhand, he is currently based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. His academic background spans commerce, finance, and the arts, having completed his matriculation from DAV Bariatu, Ranchi, Intermediate in Commerce from Delhi Public School, Ranchi, a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from IGNOU, Chartered Accountancy from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and a five-year Diploma in Fine Arts. Fluent in Hindi and English, with working knowledge of Bhojpuri and Magahi and conversational familiarity with Punjabi and Marathi, he possesses a diverse range of creative and athletic skills. He is trained in multiple dance forms including contemporary, Bollywood, hip-hop, lyrical, locking, bachata and bhangra and has also undergone training in mixed martial arts, boxing and calisthenics. His achievements include leading his school's quiz team to victories at district, state and national-level competitions, winning two Gold Medals in the National Science Olympiad at the state level and serving on the organising team of a city-wide blood donation drive in Ranchi. Professionally, he has trained in Method Acting at the Jeff Goldberg Studio of Performing Arts and in the Meisner Technique at the Roshan Taneja School of Acting, while also gaining extensive behind-the-scenes experience in the entertainment industry as a director's assistant, first assistant director, script supervisor, in-house casting director, theatre actor, and writer. Alongside his creative career, he has built expertise in finance and investment management as a Chartered Accountant and portfolio manager, bringing together analytical thinking and artistic expression.
Growing up as the son of a government officer, Ishan spent his childhood moving across cities and towns in Bihar and Jharkhand, an experience that exposed him to people from varied socio-economic backgrounds and later enriched his understanding of human behaviour as a performer. His lifelong fascination with films, storytelling, comics and larger-than-life characters gradually evolved into a passion for acting, filmmaking, and dance, while his admiration for screen icons inspired an unwavering commitment to fitness and self-discipline. His journey, however, was marked by significant personal challenges. A severe lower back injury while exercising during his school years left him bedridden and wheelchair-bound, requiring months of rehabilitation before he could walk again. Years later, he survived a life-threatening anaphylactic shock that profoundly changed his perspective on life, time, and purpose. Despite these setbacks, he continued to rebuild himself physically, mentally and professionally, balancing successful careers in finance and the creative arts. Today, he aspires to become one of his generation's leading actors, establish an international production house and an asset management company, while using his platform to promote blood donation, support the education of underprivileged and visually impaired children, and encourage financial independence among aspiring artists and disadvantaged youth. Through his participation in Mr. India Universe, he seeks to demonstrate that resilience, intelligence, creativity, discipline, humility, and compassion can coexist, proving that true success lies not only in achievement but also in the ability to rise stronger after every challenge.
Mr. India Universe is a national competition for men in India. It is organised by Glamanand Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., the Indian franchise holder of the globally renowned Miss Universe competition. The event is spearheaded by its founder and chairman, Nikhil Anand, and serves as a platform for aspiring male models and personalities from across the country. Following a nationwide audition process, some of India's most talented and promising contestants have been selected to compete in this year's national finale. Before the grand finale, the finalists will undergo an intensive series of grooming and training sessions designed to enhance their confidence, communication skills, personality and stage presence. The contestants will arrive at the finale venue, where they will participate in a schedule of official photoshoots, pre-finale activities, rehearsals and a range of preliminary events leading up to the grand finale. At the culmination of the competition, the reigning Mr. India Universe, Bishan Madappa from Karnataka, will ceremonially relinquish his title and award his successor.
