Shaurya Raj Mehra is a 6’3” tall entrepreneur from Ludhiana, Punjab. Born in Patiala and raised in a traditional Punjabi business family, he grew up observing his grandfather and father build their manufacturing business from the ground up. Here’s an exclusive interview with him.
Q. You are a national finalist of the Mr. India Universe. How do you feel about it?
Answer: Becoming a national finalist feels like a dream come true. It’s both humbling and empowering to be on a platform that celebrates not just appearance but also talent, discipline, and character. For me, this is an opportunity to represent my journey, my values, and my vision at a national level.
Q. What strategy or approach did you follow while preparing for the national finale?
Answer: My strategy has been holistic—balancing physical fitness, grooming, and mental preparation. I dedicated time to strengthening my communication skills, working on stage presence, and ensuring consistency in fitness. I also practiced mindfulness and self-reflection to stay grounded, because I believe confidence begins with clarity of thought.
Q: Who or what has been your greatest support system throughout your journey?
Answer: My family and close friends have been my greatest support system. They’ve been there to encourage me through self-doubt and celebrate even the smallest milestones. Along with them, mentors and teammates from university and extracurricular activities have shaped me into someone who values both individuality and teamwork.
Q: What was the biggest challenge you faced during your journey and how did you overcome it?
Answer: One of my biggest challenges was balancing academics with multiple passions—sports, cultural activities, and leadership roles. At times, it felt overwhelming. But by building discipline, setting priorities, and learning to manage time effectively, I turned this challenge into an advantage, because today I can adapt to different environments with ease.
Q. Please take us through your off-camera life. What other things keep you occupied in your everyday life?
Answer: Off-camera, I’m someone who loves staying active and expressive. I play cricket, enjoy dancing, and love performing arts like theatre and mono-acting. Beyond that, I’m currently working in my father’s iron and steel casting factory, which gives me practical exposure to business operations and leadership in a real-world setting. I also like reading about business and leadership, which keeps me intellectually stimulated.
Q. What are the qualities that you believe set you apart from the other candidates who are competing for the title this year?
Answer: What sets me apart is my versatility and adaptability. From being a district-level cricketer to winning dance and acting competitions, and from excelling in academics to leading social initiatives, I have embraced multiple roles with equal passion. Additionally, working in my father’s iron and steel casting business has helped me understand responsibility and discipline at a deeper level, which I believe strengthens my character and sets me apart.
Q. What are your hobbies and areas of interests?
Answer: My hobbies include playing cricket, dancing, and theatre. I also love exploring storytelling through mono-acting and stage plays. Apart from performing arts and sports, I have a strong interest in business and management, especially leadership and community building. Currently, working in my father’s iron and steel casting factory aligns with this interest, as it allows me to blend creativity with strategy in real-world business challenges.
